United Star Alliance Partners

United Airlines, like most major U.S. airlines, is a founding member in good standing of the Star Alliance. This is the largest international airline alliance.


There are currently approximately two dozen United Star Alliance partner. To redeem or earn miles, fly with any one of these partners and give your United MileagePlus number to them during booking. United.com allows you to book award tickets for all United partners. This is the same process as booking any other United Award tickets. It's easy and quick.


For frequent travelers, having so many major airlines within one alliance is convenient. It allows you to earn miles on one airline and then use those miles for award travel on the other. You can, for example, earn United MileagePlus points on United flights or via partner flights and then redeem these miles to fly to Ireland with Aer Lingus, or Belgium with Brussels Airlines.


You could also save hundreds of miles booking with partner airlines using other airline miles. Sometimes, however, you might need fewer MileagePlus points to fly on a partner airline than your own.


MileagePlus members have access, not only to more than 35 United Airlines flight partners but also to many other travel partners. Below are details about United Airlines partners, including how to redeem or earn miles for travel.


Other United Airlines Partners

United currently has over a dozen partner airlines, beyond Star Alliance. These airlines are United's partners to expand its available destinations. However, there are restrictions on how you can earn or redeem miles for each flight. Hawaiian Airlines offers United miles only on inter-island flights, while Edelweiss miles are limited to certain flight numbers.

United hotel partners

United also has partnered with several hotel chains to allow MileagePlus members to earn points on qualifying stays at more than 15,000 properties around the world. To earn points, search for a hotel stay at one of United's partners.


If you are a member in good standing of a loyalty program you might be eligible to link your MileagePlus account and transfer hotel points to miles. The following are United's partner hotel reward programs:
